Once we arrived in Siem Reap, we were bussed from the airport to the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort to continue our pre-cruise portion of the land package.

As you enter the lobby, the reception desk and the concierge is on the right.

Reception

The lobby itself is large and ornate, with lots of seating areas.

There was a gift shop off the side of the lobby that carried high-end souvenirs and golf clothes.

We were booked into a Luxury Room, which features the following:

  • 46 m² of colonial elegance
  • Polished hardwood floors
  • King or Twin Sofitel MyBed
  • Private balcony
  • 37-inch flat screen LCD TV
  • DVD Player
  • Air-conditioning
  • Ceiling fan
  • Writing desk
  • Safety deposit box
  • Mini-bar
  • Complimentary WiFi
  • High-speed internet
  • Balmain bathroom amenities dispenser
  • Iron and iron board
  • Spacious bathroom with separate shower and bathtub
  • Pillow menu
  • Bathrobe

The resort consisted of a number of separate buildings for the accommodations. To get to our building, we had to go across a little walkway across a little lake.

Walkway to our building

Our room was #403, which was on the main floor, and just 2 doors to the left when entering the building. Upon entering the room, there was storage, coffee/tea station and a mini fridge to the left.

Opposite the storage was the bathroom with a separate shower and tub. Once nice thing about the bathroom was that there was a sign that stated that the water from the sink was suitable for brushing teeth and drinking, which was nice. They also provided bottled water daily.

The shampoo, conditioner and body wash were by Karl Lagerfield.

The main part of the room was quite spacious.

There was also this little raised area of the room (which not all of our fellow travelers had in their room).

Just outside the raised area was a nice little patio.

On our bed was a laundry bag and two scarves to be used for the excursions (you wet them down and wear them on your neck to help keep you cool).

The hotel had a selection of 3 restaurants and 2 bars:

  • Mahout’s Dream – fine French cuisine. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • The Citadel – buffet. Open for breakfast 6am-10am (10:30am on weekends), lunch 12pm-2pm and dinner 6pm-10pm. This is where we had our morning buffet breakfast each day.
  • Chef’s Table – once-a-month Siem Reap Dégustation Menu
  • Explorer’s Tale – champagne bar. Tapas are available, as well as a Champagne High Tea. Open 7am-11pm. Champagne High Tea available from 3pm-5pm daily.
  • Serpent Bar – poolside bar. Open 8am-8pm. Light bites available.
  • The Sanctuary – Wine room open 10am to late.

There is also a club lounge called Club Millésime . Club Millésime is for suite guests and guests who buy Club Millésime access.

The Citadel had a huge buffet with a number of different food stations,

The resort had a nice big pool, along with a pool bar.

Next to the pool was the hotel spa – Sofitel Spa – which offers typical spa services along with manicures and pedicures. The spa is open 10:00am to 10:00pm. I went there for a foot massage one day, and then back the next day for a full massage. Both were wonderful and relatively inexpensive ($25 for a foot massage, $45 for a full massage).

There is also a SoFIT fitness centre that is open 24 hours a day. This was also next to the pool.

One of the nights, AmaWaterways even had a private Aspara Dance Show for us at the hotel, which was very interesting.

The hotel was a nice oasis to come back to after a busy day of visiting temples. The service was amazing and the staff was wonderful. If I ever make it back to Siem Reap , I would love to stay here again.
